The Home Building Checklist That Every Australian Needs In 2024

If it is your wish to get yourself onto the property ladder by getting a contractor to build your home, or maybe you have the skills to do it yourself, there are a number of things that you will certainly need. Building your dream home is definitely an exciting time in your life but it is also one that is full of stress and anxiety as well. If it is your intention to hire people to do the work then it can be difficult to find the right people for the job and then there is the timeframe that needs to be stuck to, the building inspections by various government departments and all the other requirements that need to be followed.

Obviously, one of the first things that you will need is concrete supplies so that you can construct your home in the first place and that includes many different items. The contractor will of course know exactly what you need but it is important that you know and understand the building process as well. This is just one of the things that you will certainly need and you can add the following to your home-building checklist if you are building a house in 2024 or any year for that matter.

  • You will need financing – The cost of building a home here in Australia goes up year after year and so unless you have an incredible amount of money currently sitting in your savings account then you’re going to have to reach out to various lenders so that you can get a construction loan. Depending on your financial circumstances, the bank or building society may lend you a portion of the money but it’s likely that you’re going to have to come up with a fairly large deposit.
  • You will need the land – Clearly, your new house is to be built on land and so finding it in the right location and finding it at the right price can be very difficult. Sometimes you can take advantage of the open market and you may be lucky enough to find someone who needs cash quickly and who will sell you the land at a greatly reduced price. The land then has to be cleared so that any trees or other impediments can be removed so the building can commence.
  • You will need a designer – You can’t just turn round to your contractor and say build me a house because they need some plans to follow. This is when you reach out to an architect who can design a home of your dreams for you. You will have to tell them what it is that you want from your home and how you would like it to be customised.

Once you get these three things out of the way, you then have to set up a schedule that needs to be followed and then think about the plumbing, electrical work and air conditioning systems that you want to have installed in your property.
